It's a 4 day weekend this week! No school on Friday (Teacher Inservice Day) and Columbus Day on Monday!

Next week, I will be sending out an email regarding conference sign ups.  Conferences will be held at the end of October and beginning of November.

Do you know how many grams equals a kilogram? We learned that in our first unit in math. This week we started unit 2. In this unit, we will solve one-and two-step number stories involving all four arithmetic operations. Wow! We'll use diagrams, arrays, pictures, words, and number models to help us solve these problems.

Also, we've started weekly math challenges with Mr. Gross. Ask your child about them!

This week, we worked on our personal narrative leads.  We are striving to catch the reader's attention in the first two sentences.  A strong lead will get the reader interested in our subject and want to continue reading.

Mrs. Agell's weekly writing challenges have also started!

We started our Characters Unit and are learning how to make our characters jump from the page. By describing our characters in detail, it lets the reader know exactly who they are reading about.  We describe how they look and how they feel.

Our latest read-a-loud is called Because of Winn Dixie.  We are currently on chapter 5.  Opal is the main character and she is in 3rd grade.  She found a dog in a Winn Dixie grocery store and guess what she called it?  You guessed it.....Winn Dixie!

Our Science Unit is Geology!  Rocks, rocks and more rocks!  We've learned the different layers of the earth and we're currently exploring the different attributes our rocks have. Our rocks have become our pets, ask you child what they named their rock!

Come back soon and see what's happening with Mrs. Colfer's Crew!!  Have a great 4 day weekend!
